Why round the package count up?
Mineral wool batts are sold in sealed packages, and a partial package still requires purchasing a full package, so the result is always rounded up to the next whole package.
How much waste allowance should I use?
5% is a reasonable starting point for standard stud or joist bays. Cavities with many obstructions (electrical boxes, blocking, plumbing) or irregular bay widths generate more cut-offs and may need a higher allowance.
