A caulk bead is a three-dimensional fill, not just a line — its volume depends on the cross-sectional area of the bead (width × depth) multiplied by how far that bead runs, the standard method for estimating continuous sealant.
Why does a small change in joint width or depth change the volume so much?
Volume scales with the product of width and depth, so doubling either dimension doubles the cross-sectional area and roughly doubles the total sealant volume for the same joint length.
Does this account for sealant wasted from tube priming or backer rod?
