Frequently asked questions

Will this tonnage make my sub-base?
Convert to volume, divide by the area, and compare the result against the compacted thickness specified — then add for the volume lost to compaction. The loose figure alone will overstate what you finish with.
Does dust content change the value?
It changes the density and the behaviour. More fines means more weight per yard and tighter compaction; a cleaner grading is more free-draining but locks together less. Neither is universally better, so match it to the application.
Can I use limestone under paving?
It is common practice for sub-base, with a separate bedding layer above. Limestone is not a bedding material — it needs the correct sand or grit above it depending on the paving system.
