Frequently asked questions

Why does decomposed granite compact so well?
Because it contains a full range of particle sizes down to fine dust, which fills the voids between larger particles under compaction. That is what produces the firm path surface.
Does it wash away?
It can, particularly on a slope or where drainage is poor. Compaction, falls that shed water, and stabilised versions all reduce it; loose material on a gradient will channel.
Is it dusty?
Loose material tracks indoors and creates dust in dry weather. Stabilised products bind the fines and largely remove the problem at a higher material cost.
