What this calculation does not cover
- This volume is the material loose, as tipped. Rolling drives the fines into the voids between the coarse particles, so the finished surface occupies appreciably less room. How much less moves with the product and the plant, so there is no single allowance to apply.
- Coverage assumes the material stays where it is put. Uncompacted or poorly drained decomposed granite channels and washes out in heavy rain, worse on a gradient, so budget for topping up a path that is not rolled and drained.
- A stabilised or resin-bound decomposed granite is a different product, not this one. It is placed to the maker's depth and compaction instructions, so its coverage comes off the supplier's data sheet rather than off a loose-tipped volume.

The material's weakness is water: uncompacted or poorly drained, it erodes and channels in heavy rain, and paths on any gradient benefit from a stabiliser or a bound version. Where a firm, dust-free surface is wanted, the stabilised products cost more but avoid the tracking that loose fines cause indoors.
