How much will this tonnage cover?
Convert to volume and divide by the area, then reduce for compaction — decomposed granite loses appreciable volume when rolled, which is precisely what makes the surface firm.
Can it be laid over an existing path?
Only if the base is sound and drains. Laying over a soft or waterlogged base produces a surface that moves regardless of how well the top layer is compacted.
How does it compare with gravel on cost?
Usually similar per ton, but it covers less area because it is denser and compacts. The finished surface is firmer and more accessible, which is generally what justifies it.
