Why would a more expensive flooring option ever be the better deal?
If it lasts proportionally much longer than a cheaper option, its cost spread over its lifespan (annualized cost) can be lower — you avoid the labor and disruption cost of replacing flooring multiple times over the same period.
Does this account for the cost of removing old flooring at replacement time?
No — this compares material and install cost only. Removal/disposal cost at end of life would favor longer-lasting options even more, since it's a cost you pay fewer times.
Should lifespan estimates come from the manufacturer?
Manufacturer warranties are a starting point, but real-world lifespan also depends on your household's traffic level, pets, sunlight exposure, and maintenance — adjust the lifespan inputs to reflect your actual expected use.
