Why are pellets denser than wood chip?
Because they are compressed under pressure into a uniform product. That gives more energy per unit of storage volume and a consistent shape that feeds reliably through an auger, which loose chip does not.
What happens if pellets get damp?
They swell and break down into sawdust, which both ruins the fuel and blocks feed systems. Dry storage is not optional — a damp store causes mechanical failures as well as fuel loss.
How much storage do I need?
Enough for a full delivery plus working space, since part-load deliveries cost considerably more per tonne. Sizing the store to the delivery vehicle's capacity is the usual approach.
