Frequently asked questions

How much bank will this cover?
Convert to volume and divide by the specified layer thickness. Because the stone is large, edge effects and irregular ground consume more than a flat calculation suggests.
Can rip rap be placed by tipping?
Poorly. Tipped stone segregates and does not key together, leaving weak points. Proper placement positions the stone so pieces interlock, which is slower and considerably more durable.
Why did my rip rap sink?
Usually because the filter layer was missing or inadequate, letting the soil beneath migrate out through the voids. The stone then settles into the void it created.
