With the figures above, the total bathroom cost comes to 0 currency. Note that rate per fixture (supplied and fitted) and tiled area sit at the edge of the range this calculator was checked against, so treat the output as indicative rather than settled. The method behind this is well established, though site conditions and material batches will move it somewhat. This is calculated for United States and cites IRC 2024. Building in another market? Preliminary estimate, not certified engineering. This tool produces an indicative quantity calculation for planning purposes only — it is not a certified structural analysis, a guaranteed material takeoff, or a substitute for building department approval. Always verify measurements on-site and have a licensed contractor or structural engineer review any load-bearing, code-sensitive, or safety-critical work before purchasing materials or starting construction. Spotted an arithmetic or standards error? Report it to contact@craftquantities.com with your inputs — confirmed fixes become pinned regression tests.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a tiny bathroom cost nearly as much as a big one?
Because almost nothing about a bathroom scales with floor area. The fixture count is the same, the waterproofing covers the same shower, the extract fan is one fan, and the labour to cut tiles around four fixtures in a small room is greater per square metre, not less. Halving the floor area of a bathroom rarely takes more than about a fifth off the cost.
Is waterproofing really a separate cost from tiling?
Yes, and conflating them is the most expensive misunderstanding in this trade. Tile and grout are not waterproof — water passes through grout routinely. Backer board is water-resistant, not waterproof. A tanking membrane or liquid-applied system underneath is what keeps water out of the structure, and a shower built without one will damage the floor beneath it, typically within a few years and invisibly until it is serious.
Should I move the WC?
Only with a good reason. A WC waste needs a specific fall to the stack, and moving it more than a short distance means either lifting the floor to re-run it or accepting a boxed-in run at high level. It changes the job from a fit-out into a drainage alteration, and it is the single most common cause of a bathroom budget doubling.
