How much wall will my bags of stucco cover?

Stucco is sold by the bag and spread by the square foot, and the texture on the wall changes how far a bag goes. Enter the bags you have and the wall they cover comes back at the calculator's standard coverage, read as a length of wall at its opening height.

About a hundred square feet a bag

An 80 lb (36 kg) bag of stucco mix commonly covers about 100 square feet, 9.3 m², at standard application thickness — the figure the calculator uses, with the reminder that each product's own coverage chart is the one to confirm against. A thicker coat or a heavy texture takes the answer down in proportion.

Nothing is added for waste

The calculator divides the net area by the coverage and rounds up to whole bags, with no allowance for mix that bounces off the wall, stiffens on the board or stays in the mixer and hose. So the wall here is what the bags cover if nothing is lost — keep one back on a job of any size.

Texture and substrate take their share

The same 100 square feet per bag is assumed over a damp, smooth base as over dry open masonry that drinks the mix, and for a tight sand finish as for a deep dash. Weep screed, casing bead, corner aid, control joints and any pigment are separate orders from the bags.

How the answer is worked

Nothing here is a second formula. The Stucco Calculator runs forwards — a size in, a quantity out — and this page grows its own starting wall in proportion until the quantity it asks for is what you have. Where it rounds up to whole containers, the answer is the largest size before the next one would be needed.

Where the calculator adds an allowance for cuts or breakage when you order, the same allowance comes off here, because it is the same calculator: a stack you already own finishes less than its face value. Where it adds none, neither does this page — the settings beside the answer say which.

Frequently asked questions

How much wall does 10 bags of stucco mix cover?
At the Stucco Calculator's own settings, 1,000 sq ft (92.9 m²) — 100 ft of wall 10 ft high. Every figure follows the settings, which you can change in the calculator.
How many square feet does an 80 lb bag of stucco cover?
Commonly about 100 square feet (9.3 m²) at standard application thickness, according to typical product coverage charts. A thick base coat or a heavy texture covers less; confirm against your product's own chart before ordering for a whole house.
How many bags of stucco does a wall need?
Measure the wall's length times its height, take off the large openings, and divide by the product's coverage — about 100 square feet per 80 lb bag — rounding up. A 40 by 10 foot wall with no openings is 400 square feet, so about 4 bags for the coat the chart describes.
Why does stucco coverage vary so much?
Because thickness, texture and the substrate all change it: a damp, smooth base takes less than dry open masonry, and a deep dash finish takes more than a tight sand finish. Mix that bounces off the wall or goes stiff before it is used adds to it again.
