Why is the factor not 0.3048?
Because area scales with the square of length. The correct multiplier is 0.3048 squared, or 0.0929. Using the linear factor understates an area by roughly a factor of three, which on a flooring order is a very expensive slip.
Do coverage rates convert the same way?
They convert, but check the direction. Paint quoted at square feet per gallon becomes square metres per litre through two conversions at once — area and volume — so it is safer to convert your area and then use the product's own metric coverage figure.
How much is a square metre in square feet?
