12.36 acres

High confidence

1 ha = 2.4710538 acres. For deeds and transactions use the full factor — 1% of a large parcel is significant money.

Conversion factor applied
2.47 acres per ha

Metric land descriptions being read against American conventions need this direction, most often when an overseas holding is being valued or compared. A hectare is 2.471 acres, and the widespread shorthand of two and a half is about one percent high — trivial in discussion and not trivial across a large parcel where a percent of the area is a percent of the value. Worth remembering too that converting an area does not convert a boundary description: a metric survey defines boundaries by distance and bearing, and only the original survey is authoritative for legal purposes. The converted acreage is for comparison, not for conveyancing.

Preliminary estimate, not certified engineering. This tool produces an indicative quantity calculation for planning purposes only — it is not a certified structural analysis, a guaranteed material takeoff, or a substitute for building department approval. Always verify measurements on-site and have a licensed contractor or structural engineer review any load-bearing, code-sensitive, or safety-critical work before purchasing materials or starting construction. Spotted an arithmetic or standards error? Report it to contact@craftquantities.com with your inputs — confirmed fixes become pinned regression tests.

Frequently asked questions

Is two and a half acres close enough?
For a conversation, yes — it runs about one percent high. For a deed, a sale or a planning submission, use the full 2.4710538 figure, since land is valuable enough that one percent is real money on any sizeable parcel.
Do surveys convert cleanly?
The area does, but boundary descriptions may not. A metric survey describes boundaries in metres and bearings, and converting the area alone does not reproduce those. For legal purposes the original survey governs.
What about square kilometres?
A square kilometre is a hundred hectares, so multiply by a hundred before converting. It is the unit used for larger holdings and regional planning, where hectares become unwieldy.
