This calculator aggregates a takeoff into a single tonnage figure once you already have the total linear length and a quantity-weighted average weight per meter — it doesn't itemize individual shapes; use the individual shape weight calculators (I-beam, channel, angle, HSS, pipe) for that.
How do I get an accurate average weight per meter for a mixed steel package?
Weight each section's per-meter weight by its share of total linear length (e.g. weighted by length, not by piece count), so heavier, longer members appropriately dominate the average.
Does the result include connection material like plates, bolts, and welds?
No — this only tallies the linear steel members you enter. Add plate, bolt, and other connection material weights separately for a complete tonnage estimate.
