Bends and fittings add extra cable length roughly in proportion to how much of the pipe run has direction changes, so a percentage allowance scales naturally with the total pipe length rather than requiring a fixed value regardless of run length.
Why do valves need extra cable beyond the fitting allowance?
Valves have irregular shapes and greater thermal mass than straight pipe, so they need additional cable wrapped directly around the valve body beyond the base straight-run length — this is accounted for separately per valve, in addition to the general fitting/bend allowance.
Does this calculate the electrical load or circuit sizing for the heat trace system?
No — this only calculates the total physical cable length needed. Electrical circuit sizing (wattage per foot, circuit breaker sizing, controller selection) must be determined separately from the cable manufacturer's specifications.
