Weight

11.02 short tons

High confidence

1 tonne = 1,000 kg = 2,204.62 lb = 1.102311 short tons. A tonne is about 10% more material than a short ton — reconcile weighbridge tickets in matching units.

Conversion factor applied
1.1 short tons per tonnes

Imported material arriving with a metric weighbridge ticket, or a European specification being priced by an American supplier, both need this direction. A tonne is roughly ten percent heavier than a short ton, which means the same numeric quantity is more material — a distinction that turns into an apparent shortfall when a delivery is reconciled against an order placed in the other unit. Waste containers are a common place for this to bite: skip and dumpster hire agreements state a weight limit in the local convention, and exceeding it results in a surcharge or a refused collection, so an estimated waste tonnage should be converted into the unit the hire agreement actually uses before the container is booked.

Add the equipment this sizes

This result is a specification — 11.023 short tons — not a quantity. Put the thing it sizes into your project: how many, what you call it, and your supplier’s price.

Preliminary estimate, not certified engineering. This tool produces an indicative quantity calculation for planning purposes only — it is not a certified structural analysis, a guaranteed material takeoff, or a substitute for building department approval. Always verify measurements on-site and have a licensed contractor or structural engineer review any load-bearing, code-sensitive, or safety-critical work before purchasing materials or starting construction. Spotted an arithmetic or standards error? Report it to contact@craftquantities.com with your inputs — confirmed fixes become pinned regression tests.

Frequently asked questions

Is a tonne bigger or smaller than a ton?
Bigger, by about ten percent, when compared with the US short ton. It is slightly smaller than the imperial long ton. So the same figure quoted in tonnes represents more material than the same figure in short tons.
Does a weighbridge ticket say which?
It should, and it is worth reading. A ticket from a metric yard will be in tonnes or kilograms, and reconciling it against an order placed in short tons without converting produces an apparent shortfall or surplus that is purely a units artefact.
How does this affect a skip or dumpster limit?
Container weight limits follow the local convention, and exceeding one can mean the container is refused or surcharged. Convert your estimated waste weight into whatever unit the hire company's limit uses before booking.
