No — this is a simple area-based panel count (floor area divided by single-panel area, rounded up). Actual layout will have cut waste at floor edges and openings, which typically pushes real panel usage above this baseline count.
Why do panel width and length matter separately from just area?
CLT panels are manufactured in fixed rectangular sizes, so a given floor area can only be tiled efficiently by whole panels of specific width and length — the number of plies (3, 5, or 7) determines panel thickness and structural capacity but does not change this coverage-area math.
What limits how wide or long a CLT panel can be?
Standard CLT panel width and length are constrained by manufacturing press size and transport limits, which is why this calculator treats panel width and length as inputs you set based on your specific supplier's stock sizes.
