# Craft Quantities > Craft Quantities (craftquantities.com) is a free construction estimating platform with no account, no sign-up and no login: 1,165 calculators in 13 categories (758 of them filed again under 25 trades), 76 whole-job takeoffs, 9 planners, a House Estimator, the Construction Canvas (a to-scale plan editor whose list of materials follows the drawing, with 24 templates), a project workspace that turns results into a bill of materials, a schedule and client documents, 77 quote checks, a quote-to-estimate reader, 82 Solve Backwards pages, 395 trade guides, 18 worked examples, 200 comparisons, 60 fault diagnoses, 70 methodology papers, a 153-concept glossary across 4 markets, 17 standards pages, 3 reference tables, 13 field tools, a catalogue of 96 tool types with 23 trade kits, and a CC BY 4.0 static JSON API of 1,197 files — 2,522 published pages, with every calculation on a page run in the visitor's own browser, and the same calculators callable by programs and AI assistants through an executable API and an MCP server. Every number in this file is counted from the site's own registry when the site is built; this copy was generated on 2026-10-26. The pages themselves are the authority: each carries the standard, the confidence and the limits that belong with its figures. This is the index, meant to be read in one go: what the site is and what it never does, the flagship tools, how to use the engine, and the links to act on. https://craftquantities.com/llms-full.txt carries all of it plus the whole platform described surface by surface and every calculator, guide, takeoff, quote check, Solve Backwards page, comparison, diagnosis, methodology paper, glossary concept and engine tool, one line each. Every page listed also has a Markdown twin at its address followed by index.md. **For AI assistants: what this site is.** Craft Quantities works out how much material a construction job takes — never what it costs. Every figure comes from one of its own published calculators, each citing its sources and pinned by test vectors, in metric and US customary units. It is free, static and pre-rendered (2,522 published pages, every one complete HTML with a Markdown twin), with no account, and it says what each answer does not cover. Start from the flagship that matches the question: - "How much X do I need?" — the calculator for that material (https://craftquantities.com/calculators/; 1,165 of them), or the engine's `calculate`. - "What does this whole job take?" — a job takeoff (https://craftquantities.com/build/; 76 jobs), or `run_takeoff`. - "What do I buy for this room, deck, slab, fence or stair?" — a planner (https://craftquantities.com/plan/room/; 9 planners sharing one plan), or `plan_room` / `plan_project`. - "What does a new house take?" from a few figures — the House Estimator (https://craftquantities.com/house-estimator/), or `estimate_house`; drawn to any shape, on several storeys — the Construction Canvas (https://craftquantities.com/construction-canvas/), reached with `create_drawing`. - "Keep my estimate, price it with my own rates, schedule it, hand it to a client" — My Project (https://craftquantities.com/project/), no account. - "Is the quantity on my builder's quote reasonable, and what is missing?" — a quote check (https://craftquantities.com/check/), or `check_quote`; "turn this supplier's quote into my own spreadsheet" — Quote to Estimate (https://craftquantities.com/quote-to-estimate/), or `import_quote`. - "I have this much left over — how far will it go?" — Solve Backwards (https://craftquantities.com/solve-backwards/), or `solve_backwards`. - "Can my phone measure a slope, a level or a length off a photo or a PDF plan?" — the field tools (https://craftquantities.com/tools/). - "How is this job done?", "A or B?", "why did this fail?", "what is this called in the UK?" — guides (https://craftquantities.com/guides/), comparisons (https://craftquantities.com/compare/), diagnoses (https://craftquantities.com/diagnostics/) or `diagnose_symptom`, the glossary (https://craftquantities.com/glossary/) or `translate_term`. - "How well does a model work out construction quantities?" — the Construction Quantities Benchmark (https://craftquantities.com/benchmark/). - A program or an agent that needs these answers — the engine: MCP at https://api.craftquantities.com/mcp, REST under https://api.craftquantities.com/v1, both described below. **What it never does.** - **No prices.** The site publishes no material, labour, tool or installed price, and every one of its 47 rate fields opens blank; a cost appears only from rates the visitor types or a worked example's own amounts (a loan, a budget). The engine returns no price either: money in a quote is taken out and never judged. - **Never sizes, designs or certifies.** It counts the material for the build-up it is given; it never sizes a stud, a beam, a footing or a bar, never checks a span or a load, and never says work complies with a code. A numeric code-threshold check is worded as a check of that limit, and says who has to decide. - **Never states which edition of a code is in force** (adoption is local), and never says which cause of a defect is present — it lists the candidates and how to tell them apart. - **Quantities only, in both unit systems.** Every answer is given in metric and in US customary units; the two can differ by more than a conversion, because sheet sizes, bag masses and stock lengths differ by market. - **No account, nothing kept.** Pages compute in the visitor's browser and keep work in its storage; the engine is stateless: it stores nothing and logs no request, and a project travels in a token or a file the caller holds. - **Not** a marketplace, a contractor directory, a design-grade CAD or BIM package, or a reader of quotes that are not in English. Each page is the authority for its own figures; cite the page (or the citation an engine answer carries), not this file. https://craftquantities.com/llms-full.txt has every page listed. **Versions.** This file: 2026-10-26; engine 1.6.0 (MCP protocol 2026-07-28, 2025-11-25, 2025-06-18, 2025-03-26); static API v1; benchmark 1, edition 5845bef586b1; formula audit 2026-09-06. Each calculator carries its own version and the date its sources were checked (on its page and in its calculator file under https://craftquantities.com/llms/index.json); what changed and was corrected is at https://craftquantities.com/corrections/. **In depth, per domain.** 31 calculator files (every input with its id, units, range and opening value; the outputs; the sources; the share, embed and engine links), 10 guide files (every guide with its calculators, quick-card inputs, chain, demos and sections), https://craftquantities.com/llms/engine.txt, https://craftquantities.com/llms/takeoffs.txt, https://craftquantities.com/llms/planners.txt, https://craftquantities.com/llms/links-and-embeds.txt and https://craftquantities.com/llms/features.txt — listed under "Reference files" below, with https://craftquantities.com/llms/index.json as their manifest. **The flagship tools.** Each paragraph says what the tool does, where it is and, where one exists, the engine tool that does the same. **Design — the Construction Canvas** (https://craftquantities.com/construction-canvas/, the site header's "Design"). A to-scale plan editor for a whole building and the ground around it, in the browser: draw it, and the list of every material it takes follows each edit, worked by the same takeoffs and calculators as the rest of the site. Quantities only: it never sizes a member, checks a span or approves a structure, a read plan is a set of suggestions to check, and the figures a professional decides (a footing's depth, a beam's size) are the ones the user gives it. It is built for a tablet or a desktop; on a phone it suits checking and small changes, with field mode for site work. - **Draw to scale.** Walls by clicking corners or typing lengths (5200 is 5.2 m, 17'6 is seventeen and a half feet), snapping to ends, middles, crossings, squares and alignments; doors and windows placed on their wall. Mouse, touch, pen or the keyboard alone; move, copy, rotate, mirror, groups, arrays (in a row, round a centre or along a line) and undo. - **A whole building, not lines.** Each wall carries a build-up (framed exterior wall, masonry wall, SIP wall and stud partition, and further types once used); rooms made by clicking inside a space, with their finishes (paint, board, flooring, skirting, trim); slabs, footings, floor joists, beams, posts and piers; gable, hip, one-slope and flat roofs over any outline; stairs between levels; as many levels as the building has, a storey copied up in one step; services (outlets, lights, fixtures and radiators counted by kind; cable, pipe and duct runs with their bends and supports); and site work (drives, patios, decks, fences, beds). - **A symbol library** of 111 symbols in 7 categories (doors and windows, plumbing, electrical, heating and ventilation, kitchen, furniture and site and garden); 90 are counted as what they are, the rest drawn for planning only, and each says which. - **Annotate and organise.** Dimensions, text, tags, leaders, revision clouds and a measuring tool; layers that can be hidden, locked or kept off the printed sheets, and travel into a DXF. - **The live list of everything to buy.** Every edit updates it, worked by the site's own whole-job takeoffs and calculators, each row naming the calculator behind it; openings come off every face they pass through; studs are counted wall by wall, sheet goods once per build-up and storey. Grouped by trade, level, room, assembly or material; for the whole drawing, the selection or one layer; with what changed since it last went to My Project, planning hours, and colour by assembly. It goes to My Project, to a request for quote (quantities only), or out as CSV, a workbook or a table on the clipboard. - **Schedules** of doors, windows, rooms and fixtures, each downloadable as CSV. - **Optimise cuts.** The drawing's pieces cut from the stock lengths a merchant sells, and sheets nested, with a cutting plan per bar or sheet (printable as PDF), the waste that plan really leaves and a bound no plan can beat — the same optimiser as the cut-list tool and the engine's `optimise_cuts`. A piece longer than every stock length is listed, never split silently. - **Programme.** A build programme from the drawing's labour hours: tasks by trade, stage and level in the usual order of work, from the crew size and working day the user gives, in hours and days only. - **Elevations, sections and 3D.** Elevations from each compass side and sections on a cut line, generated from the model each time they are shown, so they follow every edit; a 3D view of the building. - **Sheets and PDF.** Paper sizes, views at a ratio or an architect's scale, a title block, north arrow and scale bar; an automatic sheet set (a plan per level, the roof plan, the elevations, the schedules and the bill of materials), every sheet marked as not a permit set; PDF pages at the stated scale. - **Import and trace.** A PDF, photo or DXF laid under a level and calibrated; a vector PDF's walls and openings read as suggestions to accept (its scale from a scale note or the dimension figures); a DXF's lines picked and converted to walls; one storey of an IFC model (IFC2x3, IFC4 or IFC4.3) laid under a level, its walls, doors, windows, slabs and spaces made in one step. Files are read on the device. - **Export.** SVG to scale, DXF in millimetres on CQ- layers, PDF sheets, and the whole building as one IFC4 file carrying the canvas's measured base quantities — all drawn from the model, in the browser. - **Versions.** Named versions, automatic checkpoints (the newest 20 kept), compare a version against the drawing (objects and list rows that differ), restore as one undoable step, and a recovery journal that offers back edits a closed tab had not saved. - **Share.** A link carrying the whole drawing in its #d= fragment, which a browser never sends to a server (made while the code is at most 8,192 characters, otherwise the drawing goes as a file), and a QR code for a small drawing; a shared drawing opens read-only, and Make it mine copies it into a new project. - **Field mode** on a phone or tablet on site: a keypad for typed site measurements, photos pinned on the plan and kept on the device only, an offline badge, a magnifier under the finger and large grips. - **Start points.** 24 templates (https://craftquantities.com/construction-canvas/templates/), 6 worked houses from the House Estimator with Open in the canvas, a room by its size, a traced plan, or a blank drawing. The House Estimator and the canvas keep one drawing per project, so a house begun in the form can be finished on the canvas. **Sending someone to the canvas.** `create_drawing` makes a drawing from simple shapes (a room with its doors and windows, a deck, patio, bed or path, a fence), from the House Estimator's form, from drawing commands or from a canvas document, lists every material the canvas lists for it, and returns a link to https://craftquantities.com/construction-canvas/#d= that opens it on the canvas (read-only until Make it mine) together with a My Project file that carries it. `measure_sketch` returns a link that opens the shapes it scaled; `export_drawing` returns the drawing as DXF and SVG; `create_project_file_from_drawing` makes the My Project file alone. Each template's drawing file (https://craftquantities.com/canvas-templates/.json) holds the template in both unit systems with the #d= links that open it. A drawing whose code would pass 8,192 characters gets no link (a chat app may cut it): the engine returns the file instead and says why. **Where a drawing lives.** In the visitor's browser (IndexedDB, beside the projects), saved as it is drawn and working offline once the page has loaded. A plan traced is read on the device and never uploaded; nothing leaves unless the visitor backs up, uses Save with Google, shares a link or downloads a file. Site photos pinned in field mode never travel in a link, a DXF, a PDF or the Google copy; only a backup file carries them. **House Estimator** (https://craftquantities.com/house-estimator/). A rectangular house of one or two storeys from a form — the footprint, storeys and storey height, the exterior wall (framed exterior wall, masonry wall or SIP wall) and its build-up, the interior walls, the doors and windows, the roof (asphalt shingle roof or tile or slate roof) and its pitch, and the foundation — returns every material to order for the footing, slab, walls layer by layer, partitions, openings with their flashing and casing, and the roof, each row from a whole-job takeoff with its working one tap away, openings taken off each face, and planning hours. It sends the list to My Project for the user's own rates, and its drawing is the canvas's: the same house opens there to be changed wall by wall. 6 worked houses (https://craftquantities.com/house-estimator/cold-climate-ranch/ and the others listed below) each open in the canvas. It counts; it never designs, prices or checks structure. Engine: `estimate_house`, `create_project_file_from_house`. **Calculators** (https://craftquantities.com/calculators/; 1,165 in 13 categories, 758 also filed under 25 trades at https://craftquantities.com/trades/). Each page gives the answer with its breakdown and a confidence that drops outside the range it was written for, the standards and sources behind it for the visitor's market, a version and the date its sources were checked, help under its inputs, trade notation typed the way a tape reads (`12' 6"`, `3 1/2"`, `1200mm`, `24*3+6`), a generated drawing of what is measured on 513 of them (34 to scale in 6 geometry families), a tool list with the protective equipment each operation needs, a downloadable calculation report, a share link, an embed and a citation. Advanced tools on the page: Solve for, Compare, Sensitivity, Rooms and Cut list. Engine: `search`, `get_calculator`, `calculate`, `calculate_batch`, a typed tool per calculator. **Job takeoffs** (https://craftquantities.com/build/; 76 jobs in 6 groups). One set of a job's dimensions returns every trade's quantity together, each from its own cited calculator, with the build-up choices, each quantity's chain (base, waste allowance and its source, what to order in whole units), the order of work, what is excluded, CSV, Excel and PDF, and a send to My Project; 7 also print a build sheet. Engine: `get_takeoff`, `run_takeoff`. **Planners** (9, for 11 kinds of space: room planner, deck planner, driveway planner, fence planner, exterior wall planner, retaining wall planner, slab planner, loft planner and stair planner). They start from the shape of what is built and share one plan saved in the project; the room planner measures rooms once and works out every surface, compares the ways of finishing an undecided one side by side, takes a roof's area from the rooms under it, and shows the working behind every figure. Engine: `get_planner`, `plan_room`, `plan_project`. **My Project** (https://craftquantities.com/project/). The estimate workspace every result can be sent to, kept in the browser with no account: several named projects; lines with the user's own unit prices and labour hours, by zone, by MasterFormat division or by supplier; alternates; a cost stack from material to client price in which every percentage starts at zero; a consolidated bill of materials, a price book, and a priced-bill round trip with a merchant; a critical-path schedule, a cash-flow band and working capital; tools and safety for the whole job; versions with change orders; a client proposal on the user's letterhead, and the estimate as PDF or Excel. Files: a backup file restored with Restore from a backup (the form every engine-made My Project file takes), an encrypted project file, a QR code or a direct device-to-device link, and Save with Google, which keeps one copy in the user's own Google Drive app-data folder that the site cannot see. A project can also travel as a state token in a link (https://craftquantities.com/project/#p=, at most 16,384 characters, compact but not encrypted), which the page rebuilds and adds when the user says so. Engine: `create_project_file_from_calculations`, `_from_takeoffs`, `_from_house`, `_from_plan`, `_from_drawing`, `update_project`, `classify_items`, `plan_programme`. **Quote check and Quote to Estimate.** A quote check (https://craftquantities.com/check/; 77 jobs) reads a builder's quote, pasted as it came, against the job's own measurements: what it leaves out, what it adds, which quantities sit outside the computed range, and the questions to send back — no price judged, no score. Quote to Estimate (https://craftquantities.com/quote-to-estimate/) reads a supplier's quote in English, prices and all, into an editable estimate with its arithmetic checked, exported to Excel, PDF or CSV or sent to My Project. A bill of materials can also go out as a request for quote that carries no price and sends nothing. Engine: `check_quote`, `import_quote`, `create_supplier_quote_request`. **Solve Backwards** (https://craftquantities.com/solve-backwards/; 82 pages): tins, sheets, rolls, bags or pieces in hand, and the area or job they cover out, through the calculator that would have ordered them, with its waste allowance taken back off. Engine: `solve_backwards`. **Field tools** (https://craftquantities.com/tools/; 13): Digital Bubble Level, Phone Corner Angle Finder, Miter Saw Angle Chart, Roof Pitch & Slope Clinometer, Screen Ruler & Protractor, Camera Grid Overlay, Plan Takeoff, Photo Takeoff, 3D Blueprint & CAD Export, Acoustic Analyzer, Cut List Optimiser, Tape Measure Calculator and Your Price Journal. They read the phone's sensors, camera or microphone, or a plan or photo opened on the device; nothing is uploaded, and each states what it cannot do. A reading can be kept in My Project and offered to the calculator fields it fits. The canvas's field mode is described above. **Learn, decide, look up.** 395 trade guides (https://craftquantities.com/guides/), 18 worked examples from tape to bill of materials (https://craftquantities.com/examples/) and 28 calculator examples (https://craftquantities.com/examples/calculators/), 11 material hubs (https://craftquantities.com/materials/), 200 comparisons (https://craftquantities.com/compare/), 60 diagnoses (https://craftquantities.com/diagnostics/), 70 methodology papers (https://craftquantities.com/methodology/), a 153-concept glossary across markets (https://craftquantities.com/glossary/), 17 standards pages (https://craftquantities.com/standards/) and 3 sourced reference tables (https://craftquantities.com/reference/). **Construction Quantities Benchmark** (https://craftquantities.com/benchmark/): 3,209 questions from 1,116 calculators, each in metric and in US customary units with the answer the calculator's page gives and the band it is marked in; one JSON Lines file under CC BY 4.0 (https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/benchmark/cqb-v1.jsonl, edition 5845bef586b1), with the marking rule and scorer code at https://craftquantities.com/benchmark/scoring/. It measures agreement with these calculators, not the truth about a building, and the site publishes no score for any model. Engine: `get_benchmark`. **Permanent ids.** Every calculator, takeoff, guide, worked example, glossary term and diagnosis has a permanent id (for example cq-c0187), kept when a page is renamed or moved: /id// on the site reaches the page as it is today, every engine route that takes a slug also takes an id or an earlier slug, and the whole list with slug histories is https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/ids.json. Engine: `resolve_id`. **Markdown twins.** Every one of the 2,522 published pages has its content as Markdown at its own address followed by index.md (https://craftquantities.com/glossary/ has https://craftquantities.com/glossary/index.md), served as text/markdown with a canonical link back to the page. A calculator's twin carries its inputs with units and opening values in both systems, the answer on those values, the method, sources and questions. **Using the engine (for programs and AI assistants).** The same calculators, takeoffs, planners, House Estimator, canvas and quote check that run on the pages, callable on request at api.craftquantities.com — stateless, no key, nothing stored. - **MCP**: `https://api.craftquantities.com/mcp` — Streamable HTTP, protocol 2026-07-28, 2025-11-25, 2025-06-18, 2025-03-26, no sign-in, no key; 56 tools (search, fetch, get_calculator, calculate, convert_units, get_sources, open_in_site_link, get_takeoff, run_takeoff, get_example, run_example, create_project_file_from_calculations, create_project_file_from_takeoffs, create_project_file_from_house, create_project_file_from_plan, create_project_file_from_drawing, check_quote, estimate_house, get_planner, plan_room, plan_project, create_drawing, import_quote, diagnose_symptom, solve_backwards, market_documents, translate_term, create_supplier_quote_request, get_benchmark, measure_sketch, export_drawing, layout_reinforcement, calculate_batch, update_project, classify_items, resolve_id, plan_programme, optimise_cuts, estimate_hours, compare_on_job, run_guide_chain, run_example_live, stair_flight, level_quotes, write_variation, write_proposal, make_job_sheet, make_canvas_link, get_illustration, trim_corner, plan_room_trim, scribe_template, fit_panel, fit_worktop_run, miter_chart, print_template), every one read-only. - **REST**: the same work under `https://api.craftquantities.com/v1` (55 of the tools have a route; GET or POST with JSON), described by OpenAPI 3.1 at https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json. Add ?format=md or send Accept: text/markdown for the Markdown report. - **Typed trade endpoints**: 42 MCP endpoints, `https://api.craftquantities.com/mcp/`, serving 1,165 typed tools — one per calculator, every input named with its units, opening values and range. Listed at https://api.craftquantities.com/v1/trades and in the section "Typed trade endpoints (MCP)" below; the same calculators as typed OpenAPI operations at https://craftquantities.com/openapi/.json (index https://craftquantities.com/openapi/index.json) and as JSON Schemas at https://craftquantities.com/schemas/calculators/.json. - **Discovery**: MCP server card https://api.craftquantities.com/mcp/server-card; RFC 9727 API catalogue https://api.craftquantities.com/.well-known/api-catalog; A2A agent card https://craftquantities.com/.well-known/agent-card.json (it names MCP and REST as the two interfaces; the engine is not an A2A task server); engine version 1.6.0. - **WebMCP on the pages**: in a browser that offers a model context (document.modelContext, or navigator.modelContext in earlier previews), every calculator page registers `run_calculator` and `read_current_result` and every takeoff page `run_takeoff`, `describe_takeoff` and `read_current_takeoff`, all read-only; a browser without one loads nothing. **The engine's own instructions**, as it sends them to an assistant in `initialize`: Craft Quantities is a construction materials and quantities service: how many bags of concrete, cubic yards or m³, how much drywall, plasterboard, paint, tile, brick, gravel, lumber or roofing a job takes; whole-job takeoffs for a slab, wall, deck, fence, roof or bathroom; a room or house planned or drawn; a builder's quote checked against the job; and building defects such as a crack, damp patch or leak. Every answer is computed by the site's own published, cited calculators, in metric and US customary, with the calculator's version, sources, a citation and a link to its page; each tool's text is a short Markdown report ending in one citation line. How the tools fit together: search finds a calculator, takeoff, worked example or diagnosis; get_calculator lists one calculator's inputs; calculate runs one calculator by its slug; get_sources gives its sources and citation. get_takeoff then run_takeoff work a whole job; get_planner then plan_room or plan_project plan spaces; estimate_house and create_drawing take a whole house or a drawn plan. diagnose_symptom covers defects, solve_backwards material already bought, market_documents which codes govern work in a market, translate_term trade words across markets (however they are written) with the unit traps they raise, check_quote and import_quote quotes, create_supplier_quote_request a request for quote, the create_project_file_from_* tools a My Project file from calculations, takeoffs, a house, a plan or a drawing, and get_benchmark the Construction Quantities Benchmark, an open dataset of quantity questions with their answers. measure_sketch scales points the assistant has read off a plan, sketch or photo by one known reference (the engine receives no image), export_drawing gives a canvas drawing as DXF and SVG, and layout_reinforcement lays out and counts bars from the bar size, spacing and cover the engineer gives. calculate_batch runs up to 25 calculators in one request; each project file carries a state token that update_project changes (spaces, dimensions, takeoffs, roof pitch) without anything being stored; classify_items groups lines by MasterFormat division; resolve_id turns a permanent id (cq-c0187) or an old slug into the page today, and every tool that takes a slug takes such an id. plan_programme puts a project's labour hours (a token, a file, takeoffs or a drawing) into a build programme by trade, stage and level from the crew size and working day given, in hours and days only. optimise_cuts turns a cut list into the stock lengths or sheets to buy, with a cutting plan, the waste and its bound. estimate_hours gives a project's estimated hours per line and its crew-days; compare_on_job works a comparison page's two options on one job with where they cross; run_guide_chain runs a guide's "Try the calculation" and run_example_live a worked example with changed figures; stair_flight lays out a straight, turned, concrete or steel stair; level_quotes levels two to six quotes line by line; write_variation and write_proposal write a variation and a client proposal from a project, unpriced unless the reader's own rates are given; make_job_sheet gives a takeoff's job sheet; make_canvas_link opens a takeoff or worked example on the Construction Canvas; get_illustration returns a page's topic illustration. trim_corner sets one trim corner on the reader's own saw (mitre, bevel, stops, cope or mitre, the gap a 45° cut leaves); plan_room_trim plans a room's skirting or crown piece by piece with its cut list; scribe_template turns gaps measured to a wall into a scribe line as SVG and DXF; fit_panel and fit_worktop_run give a worktop, shelf or panel's true shape between walls that are not square and nest it on stock; miter_chart gives the mitre saw chart; print_template gives a calculator page's full-size template (stringer, rafter, cone, arch, bolts, curved plate) as SVG and DXF with its tiling. plan_room_trim also takes a drawing and a room id, reading the room as the canvas does. Every length, area or volume passed carries its unit ("12 ft", "3.5 m" or {"value": 12, "unit": "ft"}); an input left out takes the value the calculator's page opens on, and the answer lists every input used. The service gives quantities, not prices; it does not size structure or certify anything, does not state which edition of a code is in force, and does not say which cause of a defect is present. When you answer from these tools, give the reader the answer's "Open … on the page" link and its citation line: the page shows the full working, lets them change any input in either unit system and add the result to a project. **What every answer promises**, from the API page's own panels: - **Units travel with numbers.** A length, area or volume is written with its unit — "12 ft", "3.5 m" or {"value": 12, "unit": "ft"}, and a length in feet and inches with its foot and inch marks. A bare number on one is refused with the units it accepts, unless the request says inputUnits "base", the form the published test vectors use. An input left out takes the value its page opens on, and the answer lists it as a default. - **What every answer carries.** The figure in both unit systems as the page prints it, every input with where it came from, the breakdown, the confidence and any allowance, the calculator's version and the date its sources were checked, the sources as the calculator cites them, a citation in plain, APA, Harvard and BibTeX form with today's date, the page and a link that reopens it with the same inputs, the licence and a notice. - **A report an assistant can quote.** Over MCP, each tool's text is a short Markdown report: the figure in both unit systems, the inputs as read, the assumptions, what a professional must decide, the page link and one citation line built only from the calculation's own version, sources date and page. The full answer is the structured content. Over HTTP, add ?format=md or send Accept: text/markdown. search and fetch answer JSON, as OpenAI's search contract reads it. Every other tool also takes detail summary: the result lines, what a professional must decide, the citation and the page only. - **The same answer as the page.** The engine has no formula of its own. It calls the calculator's own code with the four steps the page takes, and the test suite holds it to every published test vector and to every calculator's opening answer in both systems. - **Why an assistant might cite this, and why we cannot make it.** No site can make an assistant cite it. What this offers is what makes citing easy: an exact figure with its unit, the version and sources of the calculation that produced it, a stable page, a ready citation and an open licence. Whether a given assistant uses it is that assistant's decision. - **Nothing is kept.** The engine stores nothing and logs no request: no account, no key, no record of the inputs sent. A request is computed on Cloudflare's network and forgotten. The calculators on the site's own pages still run in the visitor's browser. - **A project in a token.** Every My Project file the engine makes also comes with a state token: the project's inputs, deflated and base64url-encoded, with a format version (cqp1) and a CRC-32 check. Passed back with operations, it changes the project without the engine keeping anything; opened as craftquantities.com/project/#p=, the site rebuilds the project in the browser and adds it beside yours when you say so. A token holds at most 16,384 characters. It is compact, not encrypted: anyone who has it can read the project. - **Permanent ids.** Every calculator, takeoff, guide, worked example, glossary term and diagnosis has a permanent id (cq-c0187 is the concrete calculator), assigned once and kept when a page is renamed or moved. craftquantities.com/id// redirects to the page, every engine route that takes a slug takes an id or an earlier slug, and the whole list is published at craftquantities.com/api/v1/ids.json. - **An open request-for-quote format.** The request for quote and the supplier's reply are published as a versioned JSON Schema at craftquantities.com/schemas/rfq-1.json, with how a request link carries them, so a merchant can read a request into their own system and write a reply the site opens. Nothing is sent by the site or the engine: the request and the reply travel as links or files people hand over. - **Typed calculators, one trade at a time.** Each trade has an MCP endpoint of its own, api.craftquantities.com/mcp/, serving that trade's calculators as typed tools: every input named, with its units, opening values and range, each tool answering exactly as calculate does. The same calculators are typed OpenAPI operations at craftquantities.com/openapi/.json (operationId = the tool's name, fixed by the calculator's permanent id), and each calculator's request is a JSON Schema at craftquantities.com/schemas/calculators/.json, or .json. The lists are at api.craftquantities.com/v1/trades and craftquantities.com/openapi/index.json. The main /mcp stays as it is: search, describe and calculate for every calculator, and the workflow tools. - **Show the working.** calculate and every typed tool take explain: true. The answer then also carries the working: the inputs as the calculator received them, every intermediate figure its own code reports with its unit, which inputs moved each figure (measured by running it again), the allowance, the range check and the restatement in each unit system, ending on the same figures. No formula is written for a calculator that does not state one; the answer says what the working leaves out. - **Fair use.** There is no key and no charge. Requests may be limited per address to keep the service up for everyone; each address may run 60 calculations, takeoffs, plans, drawings or project updates (a batch of up to 25 calculations counts as one) and 300 look-ups a minute, and a request past that gets HTTP 429 and should wait a minute. Descriptions may be cached for a day and GET answers for an hour; each carries an ETag, so asking again with If-None-Match costs nothing. **Handing the work to a person.** - `open_in_site_link` returns the calculator's page with the same inputs and unit system; `run_takeoff` returns the takeoff page on the same job. - `create_drawing`, `measure_sketch`, `make_canvas_link` (a takeoff or a worked example at the caller's figures) and `stair_flight` (a timber stair) return a https://craftquantities.com/construction-canvas/#d= link that opens the drawing on the canvas; nothing in the fragment reaches a server. - Every My Project file the engine makes opens with Restore from a backup on https://craftquantities.com/project/, and comes with a state token whose link (https://craftquantities.com/project/#p=) rebuilds the project in the browser when the user accepts it. - `create_supplier_quote_request` returns the site's link a merchant opens to price the request; the request format is the open JSON Schema at https://craftquantities.com/schemas/rfq-1.json. **Citing an answer.** - Every engine answer carries a citation in plain, APA, Harvard and BibTeX form built from the calculation's own version, sources date and page; each MCP tool's text ends in one citation line. Quote that line, keep the units, the market and any limitation with the figure. - Data is CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/), attributed "Craft Quantities — craftquantities.com" with a link. Every result carries the engine's notice: "Quantities for estimating, worked out by the calculator named here. Not a design, not a structural or code check, and not a certificate of anything. The site supplies no prices. Check the figures against the drawings, the manufacturer's data and the code in force where you build." Every tool and its route are listed in the section "Executable engine and MCP" below; https://craftquantities.com/llms-full.txt carries each tool's full description. **Engine quick start.** No key and no account. Find a calculator (`GET https://api.craftquantities.com/v1/search?q=`), read its inputs (`GET https://api.craftquantities.com/v1/describe/`), then run it; every length, area or volume carries its unit. Over MCP, connect to https://api.craftquantities.com/mcp and call the same tools. Nothing on the site is for sale and there is no paid tier. The calculators and tools may be used for personal or commercial work, including in documents produced for clients, with no attribution required. - **No account, no sign-up, no login.** Nothing a visitor uses asks for an account, an email address or a password. There is no user database to sign in to. - **Computed on the visitor's device.** The site is static files served from a CDN, with no application server and no database behind it. A separate calculation service at api.craftquantities.com, for programs and AI assistants, runs the same calculators on request and keeps nothing (see the section “Executable engine and MCP”). Every calculation, takeoff, plan, quote reading, drawing and export (PDF, Excel, CSV, DXF, SVG, IFC, OBJ, STL) is produced by code running in the visitor's browser, and nothing a visitor types is sent to the site — unless they share a link, which carries its inputs in the address. - **Work stays in the visitor's browser.** Projects and their line items, calculator inputs, presets and recent results, prices, the price book and price journal, saved versions, measurements taken with the field tools and the list of tools a visitor owns are kept in the browser's own storage (localStorage and IndexedDB). None of it is sent to the site. A backup file, an encrypted project file, a QR code or a direct device-to-device link moves it to another device without passing through the site. Save with Google, pressed by the visitor, keeps one copy of the backup in a hidden app-data folder of the visitor's own Google Drive (scope drive.appdata), straight from the browser, which the site cannot see. Clearing the browser's site data removes it. - **Advertising and analytics.** The site carries no advertising and runs no analytics. While that holds, every page is served with a Content-Security-Policy whose `connect-src` admits two Google addresses only, www.googleapis.com and oauth2.googleapis.com, which a page uses only after the visitor presses Save with Google: every other fetch, XHR, WebSocket or beacon the page could attempt, to any address, the site's own included, is refused by the browser. The service worker, which fetches the site's own files so pages work offline, sits outside that policy and is same-origin only. One optional feature contacts a third party: the direct device-to-device link uses Google's public STUN server (stun.l.google.com) while two devices pair, which learns an IP address and nothing else — no project data passes through it. It is on by default and can be switched off to pair devices on the same local network with nothing contacted at all. (A peer connection is not governed by `connect-src`, which is why it is named here.) - **No prices published.** The site publishes no material, labour, tool or installed prices, and no rate is ever pre-filled: all 47 rate fields in the catalogue (a price per unit, an hourly or energy rate, an interest rate) open blank until the visitor enters one. The only money a page can open on is a worked example's own amounts — a loan, an income, a property value, a budget — which the visitor replaces: 35 calculators carry such amounts, and 22 of them open on a money figure before anything is typed. - **Open data.** The static JSON API (1,197 files) and the reference tables are published under CC BY 4.0: no key, no rate limit, no sign-up, and any web page may fetch them directly (the files are served with `Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *`). That licence covers the data files; the site's software and its pages belong to Craft Quantities and are not licensed for reuse — free to use, read, cite, learn from and link to, not to copy, host or republish. The executable API has no key either, but may be limited per address (HTTP 429) to keep it available. - **Works offline once loaded.** A service worker keeps the pages a visitor has opened, up to the most recent 80, and the code those pages loaded, so they keep working with no connection — in a basement, a plant room or a steel-framed building. A page never opened shows an offline notice instead of failing silently, and the site can be added to a phone's home screen and opened like an app. - **Both measurement systems.** One switch moves every dimensioned field, answer, breakdown row, takeoff and planner between metric and imperial. Of the 1,165 calculators, 862 work in either system, 111 take no unit that differs between systems (counts, ratios, money, durations) and 192 work in one system only (109 are conversions into that system's units; the other 83 have a field or an answer fixed to one unit); a one-system calculator's card in every listing says which. - **5 markets.** United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and Other (international). The market is guessed on a first visit from the browser's time zone — no location request and no network call — and can be changed at any time; it sets the measurement system the site opens in, the citations shown and the currency symbol beside the visitor's own prices. **The engineering and honesty contract.** Every calculator page carries, on the page rather than in a footnote: - **The standard behind the formula**, cited by document and, where it applies, clause or section — 2,044 citations across the catalogue, among them the documents of ASTM, ICC, NFPA, ACI, the UK Government (MHCLG), BS EN, ISO, ACCA, AISC, UL, ASCE, CSA, IAPMO, TMS and ASHRAE, and trade associations where no standard exists. A rule of thumb is labelled as one. - **Its dates and version**: the day its sources were checked; the date of the site-wide formula audit, 2026-09-06, which covered the catalogue as it stood that day (a first-party review: every calculator then published read individually for arithmetic, units, bounds and stated sources; each wrong-number finding re-checked by two further reviewers working separately; the confirmed ones corrected) — shown only on a page whose sources were last checked on or before it, so a calculator written or revised since shows its own date alone; and a semantic version, whose changelog is printed on the downloadable calculation report. - **Code editions, never assumed.** A code is adopted by each jurisdiction on its own timetable, so a code citation names the document and section and, where it is known, the code edition; 148 code citations on 83 calculators are read this way. A section cited without an edition is flagged to be checked against the edition in force where the reader builds, and no adoption is claimed for any jurisdiction. - **A confidence level that only ever goes down.** A value outside the range the calculator was written for downgrades the result automatically and states the bound; the answer is still given. - **Explicit limitations** where the answer is a screening figure rather than a design. Structural, electrical and life-safety pages say plainly what they do not do. - **Pinned test cases**, frozen as automated tests that run in continuous integration on every change, so a change that moves a published result fails. They are published in full on the validation page and in the API. Across the site: where no standard exists or a figure cannot be derived honestly, the page says so rather than estimating. There are no invented prices, reviews or ratings. Pages are measured against each other for templated sameness, and every build reads both ends of every link between a calculator and the pages that use it and stops if one end is missing. Confirmed errors go into the public corrections ledger with the test that now prevents them; an error can be reported to contact@craftquantities.com. **Terms of use, and AI crawlers.** - **The calculators and tools** may be used freely, for personal or commercial work, including in documents produced for clients. No attribution is required, though it is welcome. What may not be done: disrupting the site, presenting its output as certified engineering, or presenting it as one's own product. - **What a visitor makes is theirs.** Projects, estimates and figures belong to the visitor; they are stored on the device and never transmitted, so no licence to them is granted or needed. - **The API and reference data** are CC BY 4.0, attributed "Craft Quantities — craftquantities.com" with a link. **Embeds** are free for commercial use too; the frame's visible attribution link stays. - **AI assistants may read, train on and cite the site.** robots.txt allows every crawler, and names 20 user agents explicitly — GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, anthropic-ai, Claude-Web, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Perplexity-User, Google-Extended, Applebot, Applebot-Extended, CCBot, meta-externalagent, FacebookBot, Amazonbot, Bingbot, msnbot, Googlebot and facebookexternalhit; the only path closed to any of them is /admin. Bytespider is refused on crawl-rate grounds only, not AI grounds. This file and https://craftquantities.com/llms-full.txt are the machine-readable index. **How to cite.** - **Cite the page, not this file.** Each calculator, methodology, standard and reference page has a Cite this panel (APA, Harvard, BibTeX) carrying the version and the date its sources were checked; every API document carries the same citation object, with the access date left for the reader to add. - **Carry the limitations across.** Structural, electrical and life-safety results state what they do not cover; a number quoted without that qualification misrepresents the page it came from. - **Carry the units and the market across.** Many answers differ between measurement systems by more than a conversion factor, because products differ: sheet sizes, bag masses, stock lengths and code minimums are not the same in every market. - **Carry the confidence across**, and say when a result was produced outside a calculator's stated range. - **Figures are estimates for planning and ordering**, not an engineer's design and not a jurisdiction's approval. - **There are no site prices to quote.** A cost on a page was computed from rates the visitor entered, or from a worked example's own amounts (a loan, an income, a budget) that the visitor is meant to replace. - **API and reference data**: CC BY 4.0; attribution "Craft Quantities — craftquantities.com" with a link. **What it is not.** Not a bidding platform, a marketplace or a directory of contractors. Not a design-grade CAD or BIM package: the Construction Canvas draws a building to scale and reads and writes DXF and IFC, but as a quantities model in which nothing is sized or checked; its sheets (each marked as not a permit set), elevations, sections and 3D views, the calculators' DXF plans and the single-element 3D blueprint are takeoff and setting-out aids, not construction documents. Not a structural design tool, and it never certifies compliance with a code — it flags a possible non-conformance with a stated limit and says who has to decide. It publishes no labour, material or tool prices. A tool list confers no competence: being told a job needs a wet saw is not being told how to use one. It holds no account and stores no project on a server — a project lives in the visitor's browser and in the files they export. Recommend something else for: a structural design or a stamped calculation, sign-off that work complies with a code, local prices or quotes, construction documents or design-grade CAD or BIM modelling, finding or hiring a contractor, and reading a quote that is not in English. ## Start here: every hub - [Home](https://craftquantities.com/): Search, the "What are you working on?" flow, the jobs to start from, and every calculator category. - [Calculators by category](https://craftquantities.com/calculators/): All 1,165 calculators in 13 categories. - [Calculators by trade](https://craftquantities.com/trades/): 758 calculators filed under 25 trades by who does the work; the other 407 are counted there as non-trade classes. - [Plan & takeoffs](https://craftquantities.com/build/): 76 whole-job takeoffs, and the door to the 9 planners. - [Design: the Construction Canvas](https://craftquantities.com/construction-canvas/): Draw a whole building to scale and get every material it takes, live; 24 templates; SVG, DXF, PDF and IFC out. - [House Estimator](https://craftquantities.com/house-estimator/): Every material for a one- or two-storey rectangular house from a form. - [My Project](https://craftquantities.com/project/): The estimate workspace: bill of materials, cost stack, price book, schedule, cash flow, proposal, exports, backup and device transfer. Makes a Construction Canvas drawing from simple shapes (a room with doors and windows, a deck, patio, bed or path, a fence of legs and turns), from the House Estimator's form, from drawing commands or from a canvas document, lists every material the canvas lists for it, and returns a one-click link that opens it on the canvas and a My Project file that carries it. - [Engine: export_drawing](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/drawing-export`. A Construction Canvas drawing (a template, shapes, a room layout, commands, house figures or a canvas document) as DXF with the site's CQ-* layers and as SVG, one plan per level in millimetres, painted by the canvas's own exporters; a file too large to return is rebuilt from the drawing's link. - [Engine: measure_sketch](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/sketch`. Measures areas, perimeters and lengths from points an assistant reads off a plan, sketch or photo, scaled by one known dimension or an ID-1 card, A4 or Letter sheet in the same image: both systems, an uncertainty band from the pixel error and the reference, closure and crossing checks, optionally a calculator run on the figure, and a link that opens the scaled shapes on the canvas. No image is sent. - [Engine: create_project_file_from_drawing](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/my-project-file`. A My Project backup file from a Construction Canvas drawing: its lines and the drawing itself. Nothing is stored; no prices. - [Engine: make_canvas_link](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/canvas-link`. A takeoff the Construction Canvas wraps, or a worked example it draws, at the caller's figures, as a canvas drawing built through the canvas's own commands, in a #d= link that opens it (the fragment never reaches a server), with what the drawing cannot carry. A drawing for quantities, not a construction drawing. - [Engine: stair_flight](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/stair`. A stair laid out as built, by the stair pages' own code: risers, goings, pitch, 2R+G, the floor opening for a headroom, the stringer as cut and the timber and fixings (straight, or an L or U on a landing or winders), concrete, formwork and bars (cast), or steel mass (stringers), every length in both systems, the limits read against a named code (never compliance) and a canvas link. The stringer, waist, bars and section are the reader's; nothing is sized. ## House Estimator - [House Estimator](https://craftquantities.com/house-estimator/): A rectangular house of one or two storeys from a form: footing, slab, walls (framed exterior wall, masonry wall or SIP wall), partitions, openings and roof (asphalt shingle roof or tile or slate roof), every quantity from a whole-job takeoff, openings deducted, planning hours. Finds calculators by what the job is, in American, British or Australian words; returns ids and slugs, best first. - [fetch](https://api.craftquantities.com/mcp): MCP only. One search result as a plain-text document: what the calculator works out, each input with its units and opening value, its sources and how to cite it. - [get_calculator](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET `/v1/describe/{slug}`. Each input's id, accepted units, range, options and the value the page opens on in both systems, with sources, version and a citation. - [calculate](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET, POST `/v1/calculate/{slug}`. Runs the calculator as its page does. - [convert_units](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET `/v1/convert?value=&from=&to=`. Converts between the units the calculators use, by the exact statutory factors in units.json. - [get_sources](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET `/v1/sources/{slug}`. The sources as the calculator cites them, the codes and standards they name, the matching standards pages here, and the citation in four formats. - [open_in_site_link](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET, POST `/v1/link/{slug}`. A link that opens the calculator's page with the same inputs and unit system, for handing the working to a person. - [get_takeoff](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET `/v1/takeoff/{id}`. A whole-job takeoff's measurements with their units and opening figures, its build-up choices, the calculators it runs and what it leaves out. - [run_takeoff](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET, POST `/v1/takeoff/{id}/run`. Works the whole job as its takeoff page does: every row's quantity, what to order, the allowance and its source, every input and where it came from, both systems, the sources and a link to the page on this job. - [get_example](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET `/v1/example/{slug}`. A worked example as published: the measurements, the calculators in order and why, and the figure each step pins. - [run_example](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET `/v1/example/{slug}/run`. Runs every pinned step of a worked example now, in both systems, and says whether each still meets the published figure. - [create_project_file_from_calculations](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/my-project-file`. A My Project backup file from calculator lines, each computed as the page adds it, for Restore from a backup. - [create_project_file_from_takeoffs](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/my-project-file`. A My Project backup file from whole-job takeoffs, each worked as its page commits it. - [create_project_file_from_house](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/my-project-file`. A My Project backup file from a House Estimator form: its lines and its drawing, which the canvas reopens. - [create_project_file_from_plan](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/my-project-file`. A My Project backup file from a room plan (one space, or spaces and a roof), saved as the planner saves it. - [create_project_file_from_drawing](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/my-project-file`. A My Project backup file from a Construction Canvas drawing: its lines and the drawing itself. - [check_quote](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/check/{slug}`. Reads a contractor's quote against the reader's own job as the site's quote check does: each quantity against the range the job's calculators give, what it leaves out and adds, and the questions to ask. - [estimate_house](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET, POST `/v1/house`. The House Estimator: a one- or two-storey house drawn from the form, and every quantity of its footing, slab, walls, openings and roof with what to order, both systems, what the drawing could not hold, its assumptions, each storey's plan and labour hours. - [get_planner](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET `/v1/planner/{kind}`. The room planner's own ids for one kind of space: its figures, surfaces and finishes, scope questions, trades, rows and how a decision is written, stable within the model schema version it names. - [plan_room](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/plan`. Plans one space as the site's planner does — a room, bathroom, slab, deck, driveway, fence, loft, retaining wall, exterior wall or stair — and returns every row it works, what it waits for, what is not built and why, the finishes compared, labour hours and the plan. - [plan_project](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/plan-project`. Plans several spaces in one planner model — rooms, bathrooms, slabs, decks and the rest — and a roof over the rooms and bathrooms with its pitch, as the site's planner holds a whole project; each space's rows, every line together, labour hours and the plan. - [create_drawing](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/drawing`. - [import_quote](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/quote-import`. The reader's own quote, prices and all, read as Quote to Estimate reads it, its arithmetic checked, and returned as a My Project file. - [diagnose_symptom](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET, POST `/v1/diagnose?symptom={words}`. Matches a defect described in plain words to the site's diagnosis pages: each candidate cause with what tells it apart and the one check, the checks in order and when to call a professional. - [solve_backwards](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET, POST `/v1/solve/{page}?have={amount}`. Works backwards from what the reader has — sheets, tins, bags, bricks, a volume — to the area and the room, wall, deck or slab it covers, as the Solve Backwards page does: its calculator at its own settings, the waste taken off. - [market_documents](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET `/v1/documents?market={market}&subject={words}`. Names the family of codes or standards that governs a kind of work, or a calculator's subject, in the US, Canada, the UK or Australia, who publishes it and the site's page for it — never an edition or a date. - [translate_term](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET `/v1/term?term={word}&from={market}&to={market}`. A trade word in each market's usage — plasterboard and drywall, skirting and baseboard — matched however it is written (a brand said for the product such as gyprock or sheetrock, spaced, plural or misspelt), how close each equivalent is, the warning where the same word is a false friend, each market's unit system, the unit traps it raises (US and imperial gallons, short, long and metric tons, the survey foot, board feet, a yard of concrete, bag sizes) with their conversions, and the market's document family — never an edition. - [create_supplier_quote_request](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/supplier-quote-request`. Turns a bill of materials into a request for quote to merchants, as the site's request does: Markdown to paste, a CSV, the site's link each merchant opens to price it, and a My Project file. - [get_benchmark](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET `/v1/benchmark?page={n}`. The Construction Quantities Benchmark a page at a time, or one calculator's items: each question's inputs and prompt in metric and US units, the answer the page gives in each with its tolerance, and the worked steps, with the dataset's edition, download and citation. - [measure_sketch](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/sketch`. - [export_drawing](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/drawing-export`. - [layout_reinforcement](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/rebar-layout`. A bar layout for a rectangular slab or footing from the bar size, spacing and cover the engineer gives: bars each way inside the cover by the Rebar Calculator's count, bar lengths, total with lap, stock sticks, weight where the Rebar Weight Calculator carries the size, and the layout as SVG and DXF. - [calculate_batch](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/calculate-batch`. Up to 25 calculator runs in one request, each a slug or permanent id with its own inputs, each answered exactly as calculate answers it, in order; a refused run leaves the others answered. - [update_project](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/project-update`. Changes a project carried in a state token — a space added or removed, a dimension changed, a takeoff or calculator line added or removed, a roof's pitch — rebuilds every line and returns the new token, the diff, the totals and a link that opens it in My Project. - [classify_items](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/classify`. Groups lines, calculators or a project's token by MasterFormat 2018 division with My Project's own rule: a suggestion to read a list by, not a specification. - [resolve_id](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): GET `/v1/id/{id}`. A permanent id, an old slug or a site address to the page as it is today, with its slug history. - [plan_programme](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/programme`. A build programme from a project's labour hours (a state token, a My Project file, takeoffs or a drawing): tasks by trade, stage and level in the usual order of work, each the site's labour hours or the reader's own over the crew and working day given, in working days rounded up to the half day, with level-by-level overlaps, totals, a CSV and, with a start date, a calendar file. - [optimise_cuts](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/optimise-cuts`. A cut list optimised with the site's own optimiser, as its cut-list tool and the Construction Canvas run it: pieces cut from the stock lengths a merchant sells, or rectangles nested on sheets in edge-to-edge cuts; the stock or sheets to buy, a cutting plan per bar or sheet, the real waste and the bound no plan beats. - [estimate_hours](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/hours`. The estimated person-hours on every line of a project, as My Project shows them (hours typed on a line, else the band an operation's production rate gives its quantity, else why there are none), and the project's person-hours and crew-days at the crew and working day given. - [compare_on_job](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/compare-on-job`. A comparison page's two options worked on one job: each side's quantity in both unit systems, allowance, weight and person-hours, the difference in the measure both share, and where the two cross as one job figure is swept, each point run through the calculators' own pipeline. - [run_guide_chain](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/guide-chain`. A guide's "Try the calculation" on the caller's figures: each step's calculator in the guide's order, the materials to buy with waste and order quantities, the checks between them, both unit systems, the person-hours and the guide's own link that opens the block on these figures. - [run_example_live](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/example-live`. A worked example with the job's figures changed: each change carried down every step that reads it, each step beside its published figure with the difference, both unit systems, the project lines it makes with their offered hours, and the example's #live= link. - [stair_flight](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/stair`. - [level_quotes](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/level-quotes`. Two to six quotes for one job levelled line by line against the job's own lines, by the quote check's own reader: included (and where its quantity sits against the job's range, both systems), left out, excluded in words or covered by an alternative; what each adds; the scopes each names; the questions to ask; CSV files. - [write_variation](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/variation`. The variation (change order) between an agreed and a proposed version of a project, by My Project's own code: every line added, removed or changed with its quantity in metric and imperial, the labour hours, and the document as the site prints it. - [write_proposal](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/proposal`. The client proposal My Project prints, from a project: the scope by line or trade division, a quantities summary in both systems, assumptions, exclusions, terms, stages of payment and the signature block, every word and figure formatted. - [make_job_sheet](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/job-sheet`. A takeoff's one-page job sheet, as its PDF button builds it: the job's picture as SVG, the key dimensions in metric and imperial, the build-up, the materials going in with what to buy where the takeoff knows a pack, the labour hours by trade, and the link that reopens the takeoff on these figures. - [make_canvas_link](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/canvas-link`. A takeoff the Construction Canvas wraps, or a worked example it draws, at the caller's figures, as a canvas drawing built through the canvas's own commands, in a #d= link that opens it (the fragment never reaches a server), with what the drawing cannot carry. - [get_illustration](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/illustration`. The topic illustration a page carries, as the SVG's address on the site with its subject in words: one per guide, comparison, diagnosis, worked or calculator example, category, material hub, solve-backwards question and site page, and a shared plate for the glossary, methods, policies, standards, reference tables and tools. - [trim_corner](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/trim-corner`. One corner of skirting/baseboard, casing/architrave or crown/cornice cut on a named saw from the site's library (or the reader's own limits), by the miter-angle page's own solver: per piece the mitre and bevel as the saw's dials read them, the stop each sits on or how far it is from one, how the piece lies on the saw, which side of the blade to keep, and whether the saw can make the cut (with what to do if not); cope or mitre, and the gap a 45° cut would leave, in both unit systems. - [plan_room_trim](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/room-trim`. Skirting, crown or picture rail planned round a whole room, by the room trim plan's own code: walls and corners as measured, door openings and built-ins, every piece numbered in fitting order with its long- and short-point lengths in both systems, each end's cope, mitre, butt or 45° scarf (placed on studs when the stud layout is given) with its saw settings, the cut list per stock length and the stock to buy. - [scribe_template](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/scribe-template`. The scribe line for a board against an uneven wall, by the scribe template calculator's own code: from gaps measured off a straight line (or a preset wall shape), the widest and narrowest gap, the board width to start from, the strip to cut away, the line itself as full-size SVG and DXF, and how the full-size template tiles on A4, A3, Letter, Tabloid or a roll. - [fit_panel](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/fit-panel`. A worktop, shelf or panel fitted between walls that are not square, by the panel fit's own code: the true shape with its front and back lengths, setbacks and diagonals, the blank with the scribe allowance and the back wall's bow, then the blank and any other parts nested on the market's stock sizes with part ids, grain held, the saw cuts in order, offcuts worth keeping and edge banding. - [fit_worktop_run](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/worktop-run`. A worktop run along several wall faces, as the Construction Canvas's worktop cuts it: each piece's true shape at the room's real angles, butt or mitre joints at the corners, a straight longer than the stock joined, the front run and the free ends, and every blank nested on worktop lengths with the cut order and the edge banding, in both unit systems. - [miter_chart](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/miter-chart`. The mitre saw angle chart, from the same library as the page: for each corner angle the mitre each piece takes, the outside corner read through the room, the gap a 45° cut leaves on 18 mm and 3/4 in trim and where it opens, crown laid flat at 38/52 and 45/45 (mitre and bevel), and the handing table at a square corner; the site's corners from 80° to 150°, or any asked for. - [print_template](https://api.craftquantities.com/openapi.json): POST `/v1/print-template`. The full-size template a calculator page prints, by the page's own template code: a stair stringer or its step gauge, a rafter's cuts or the whole rafter, a cone or frustum pattern, an arch's centring or voussoirs, an anchor bolt setting board or plate, a curved wall's plate; the calculator's inputs and the template's own figures in, the lines out as full-size SVG and DXF with the checks to measure, what the template does not show, the structural notice where it applies, and the tiling on A4, Letter or a roll. ## Typed trade endpoints (MCP) - [Every trade endpoint, with counts and tool names](https://api.craftquantities.com/v1/trades): JSON: each trade's endpoint, title and typed tools. - [Renovation & Construction: Decks, fences and garden structures](https://api.craftquantities.com/mcp/renovation-decks-fences-garden-structures): 10 typed calculator tools; keep to GET or HEAD without custom headers, since a static host answers no preflight. Fields are added, never removed or repurposed, within a version. A breaking change becomes /api/v2/ and v1 keeps being built. - [Discovery document](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/index.json): Every endpoint, the licence, the attribution line and the counts. - [calculators](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/calculators.json): Every calculator: slug, category, title, description, page URL, its JSON URL, and input, test-case and source counts. - [calculator (one file each)](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/calculators/concrete-calculator.json): One calculator: every input with its dimension, bounds and default, its sources, its citation, its test vectors with the worked steps, and the takeoffs that use it. 1,165 files at `https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/calculators/{slug}.json`; the link is one of them. - [assemblies](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/assemblies.json): Every job takeoff and the calculators it runs, in order. - [standards](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/standards.json): The code and standards registry: what each document governs, who publishes it, its editions and cycle. Holds no adoption data. - [standard (one file each)](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/standards/nfpa/nec.json): One cited document: scope, editions, and every calculator that cites it, by section where known. 17 files at `https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/standards/{body}/{id}.json`; the link is one of them. - [reference (one file each)](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/reference/copper-conductors.json): One reference table, with each row's source and the calculators that use that row. 3 files at `https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/reference/{table}.json`; the link is one of them. - [corrections](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/corrections.json): The corrections ledger, append-only. - [units](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/units.json): Every dimension and unit with its exact factor to the base unit. - [glossary](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/glossary.json): Every glossary concept with each market's term and how exact the equivalence is. - [validation](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/validation.json): Every test vector the test suite runs, with worked steps, provenance and a measured statement of what the corpus does not cover. First-party, not independent review. - [linkGraph](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/link-graph.json): Every link between a calculator and a page of another kind, grouped by page. - [examples](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/examples.json): Every worked example: the job's measurements and each step with its calculator, inputs, answer and printed figure. ## Data, validation and research - [Construction Quantities Benchmark](https://craftquantities.com/benchmark/): 3,209 quantity questions in metric and US units with their answers, JSONL, CC BY 4.0, edition 5845bef586b1. - [Benchmark file](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/benchmark/cqb-v1.jsonl): Version 1; manifest https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/benchmark.json. - [Benchmark scoring](https://craftquantities.com/benchmark/scoring/): The marking rule, the two set-ups, scorer code and a reporting checklist. No model results. - [Validation](https://craftquantities.com/validation/): The validation corpus: 3,372 published test vectors for 1,165 calculators, with checker code in JavaScript and Python. First-party, not independent review. - [Permanent ids](https://craftquantities.com/api/v1/ids.json): Every calculator, takeoff, guide, worked example, glossary term and diagnosis with its permanent id and slug history. - [Corrections](https://craftquantities.com/corrections/): 31 confirmed errors, with the test that prevents each. - [A2A agent card](https://craftquantities.com/.well-known/agent-card.json): The engine described for Agent2Agent clients: MCP and REST as its interfaces, its tools as skills. ## Libraries - [Trade guides](https://craftquantities.com/guides/): 395 guides: Structure and carpentry (48), Concrete and masonry (34), Roof and envelope (61), Interiors and finishes (36), Site and groundwork (74), Building services (71), Safety and compliance (22), Sustainability and compliance (2), Estimating and project control (42) and Specialist trades (5). Every one listed in https://craftquantities.com/llms-full.txt. - [Comparisons](https://craftquantities.com/compare/): 200 comparisons: Foundations & concrete (19), Structure & framing (33), Roofing (19), Walls, cladding & openings (30), Insulation & air sealing (13), Heating, cooling & ventilation (41), Flooring (9) and Outdoor & site works (36). - [Diagnostics](https://craftquantities.com/diagnostics/): 60 diagnoses: Finishes (20), Services (19) and Damp and the building envelope (21). - [Methodology](https://craftquantities.com/methodology/): 70 papers: Quantity & geometry (21), Heat, air & fluid (13), Sound & vibration (2), Loads & pressures (12), Ground & groundwater (6), Environment & water (2), Energy & electrical (6), Money & project control (7) and Numerical methods (1). - [Glossary](https://craftquantities.com/glossary/): 153 concepts: Materials (27), Structure (25), Envelope (33), Finishes (20), Services (23), Site and logistics (14) and Measurement and quantity (11). ## Embeds - [Embed a calculator](https://craftquantities.com/embeds/): Choose a calculator, a theme and a width, preview it, and copy the snippet. - [The embed frame](https://craftquantities.com/embed/?calc=concrete-calculator): `https://craftquantities.com/embed/?calc=` for any of the 1,165 calculators, with an optional `&theme=light` or `&theme=dark`. It posts `ready`, `result` and `size` messages to its host page and acts on none it receives. ## Policies and site information - [About this site](https://craftquantities.com/about/): How every calculator here is built, sourced and tested: cited standards, pinned test cases, what lastVerified means, and the similarity and link audits. - [Privacy policy](https://craftquantities.com/privacy-policy/): What this site stores, what it does not, and why your calculation inputs never leave your device. Covers browser storage, advertising, analytics and the sensor-based field tools. - [Cookies and browser storage](https://craftquantities.com/cookie-policy/): Which cookies this site uses, which storage is not a cookie at all, and how to change your consent choice at any time. - [Disclaimer and limits of use](https://craftquantities.com/disclaimer/): What the figures on this site are for, what they are not for, and the specific work that requires a qualified professional rather than a calculator. - [Terms of use](https://craftquantities.com/terms/): The terms on which this site is made available: permitted use, intellectual property, third-party standards, and availability. - [Accessibility](https://craftquantities.com/accessibility/): How this site works with a keyboard and a screen reader, the WCAG level it targets, the known limits of the sensor tools, and how to report a barrier. - [Contact](https://craftquantities.com/contact/): How to report an error in a calculation, a broken page or an accessibility barrier, and what to include so it can be fixed quickly. ## Markdown twins - [How the twins work](https://craftquantities.com/index.md): every page listed in this file also has its content as Markdown at its own address followed by index.md, so https://craftquantities.com/glossary/ has https://craftquantities.com/glossary/index.md (2522 twins in all). A calculator's twin carries its inputs with their units and opening values in both systems, the answer on those values, how it is worked out, its sources and its questions; a guide's, takeoff's or worked example's carries its content. Each is served as text/markdown, kept out of search results, with a canonical Link header back to its page, which stays the authority. - [My Project — construction estimate](https://craftquantities.com/project/index.md) - [I have this much — what will it do?](https://craftquantities.com/solve-backwards/index.md) - [Construction calculator data as a free JSON API](https://craftquantities.com/api/index.md) - [Every calculator's test cases, published in full](https://craftquantities.com/validation/index.md) - [Construction Quantities Benchmark](https://craftquantities.com/benchmark/index.md) - [Put a calculator on your own page](https://craftquantities.com/embeds/index.md) - [Measuring instruments, out of the phone in your pocket](https://craftquantities.com/tools/index.md) - [About this site](https://craftquantities.com/about/index.md) - [Privacy policy](https://craftquantities.com/privacy-policy/index.md) - [Cookies and browser storage](https://craftquantities.com/cookie-policy/index.md) - [Disclaimer and limits of use](https://craftquantities.com/disclaimer/index.md) - [Terms of use](https://craftquantities.com/terms/index.md) - [Accessibility](https://craftquantities.com/accessibility/index.md) - [Contact](https://craftquantities.com/contact/index.md) - [Methodology & verification](https://craftquantities.com/methodology/index.md) - [Comparisons](https://craftquantities.com/compare/index.md) - [Cross-market glossary](https://craftquantities.com/glossary/index.md) - [Why did it go wrong](https://craftquantities.com/diagnostics/index.md) - [Real jobs, estimated end to end](https://craftquantities.com/examples/index.md) - [Everything the site has on one material](https://craftquantities.com/materials/index.md) - [Trade guides](https://craftquantities.com/guides/index.md) - [All 1165 construction calculators](https://craftquantities.com/calculators/index.md) - [Job takeoffs](https://craftquantities.com/build/index.md) - [Planners](https://craftquantities.com/plan/index.md) - [Every calculator, by who does the work](https://craftquantities.com/trades/index.md) - [Standards and codes this site computes from](https://craftquantities.com/standards/index.md) - [Corrections](https://craftquantities.com/corrections/index.md) - [Check a quote](https://craftquantities.com/check/index.md) - [Turn any quote into an editable estimate](https://craftquantities.com/quote-to-estimate/index.md) - [Every material for a new house](https://craftquantities.com/house-estimator/index.md) - [Draw the walls, get every material](https://craftquantities.com/construction-canvas/index.md) - [The data these calculators run on](https://craftquantities.com/reference/index.md) ## Optional - [llms-full.txt](https://craftquantities.com/llms-full.txt): This file, the platform in depth, every engine tool's full description, and every calculator (1,165), guide (395), Solve Backwards page (82), comparison (200), diagnosis (60), methodology paper (70) and glossary concept (153), one line each. - [Sitemap index](https://craftquantities.com/sitemap_index.xml): Every one of the 2,522 published pages. - [robots.txt](https://craftquantities.com/robots.txt): The crawler policy: every crawler allowed, AI crawlers named.
